MONDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 9/22/97
[Previous report was for 9/20/97]
Hi guys,
I need to alert you to a slight change I'm making in the reports. From now on whenever possible I am linking DIRECTLY to the story reviewed rather than to the site where the story is located. In those instances where a story appears in parts I will continue liking to the site where the parts are listed so readers can choose the part they need. I am making this change because many readers have requested it and also because it makes updating the Lunacy Web site where the reports are eventually incorporated into larger compiled files much easier. However, in making the change I need to remind you of one thing. I *DO NOT* include in my reports every new story or new update that appears on the Web. I include MOST but NOT all. I include stories when I like them or when I think they're original, unique or otherwise worth reading for another reason which often becomes clear in the review. However, there are stories posted which are very well-written and which you as readers may enjoy which will not make it into my reports. Consequently I urge you, in addition to using this report, to also visit the various fan fic Web sites regularly and to check the WHAT'S NEW page on Xenos' XWP FAN FIC INDEX at this URL:
http://www.xenafiction.com/whatsnew.html
Xenos does an EXTRAORDINARY job at making available links to just about EVERY new story or update posted on the Web. Now, here's tonight's selections :)
GENERAL FICTION:
BINDING THE SOUL by Hobbes
Poignant story set after the events in the episode RETURN OF CALLISTO which has Xena trying to help Gabrielle through a deep depression. In an original touch, the story features TWO different endings - allowing the reader to pick the prefered one. Well-written and solidly based on the friendship between warrior and bard.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:
THE SILENT CITY by Dr. Bob
This is a continuation of Dr. Bob's previous stories, BEGINNINGS, THE SPRING FESTIVAL and A SOUL REUNITED. Together now, Xena and the bard are enjoying their new-found closeness when they happen across the ruins of a mysterious city - abandoned...or so it seems. With more to loose now than ever, the two set out to unravel the secret of the silent city unaware of the true horror hiding within the ruins. This story expands on the love and romance warrior and bard discovered in A SOUL REUNITED - delivering another deeply passionate tale. The mystery of the silent city is unraveled slowly, at times with gruesome precision. The overall result is another first-class
read from one of our most talented bards. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

THE PELOPONNESIAN WAR - BOOK III: THE MYTILENE DEBATE by Baermer
The concluding pt. 55 of this book is now available. With the siege of Poteidaia now over Xena and Gabrielle face a new challenge - to try to locate a missing Ephiny last seen weeks before when she left the Amazon nation escorting a group of young Amazons to Sappho's school just outside the city of Mytilene. With news that the city is in revolt, the warrior and bard embark on a possible rescue mission with Solari and Epinon. It is a journey that will once again test them physically and emotionally as they struggle with the historic events unfolding around them and with serious issues still unresolved in their relationship. In this final section,
a deadly plan to destroy both Xena and Gabrielle is finally put into action. From the keyboard of one of our most accomplished bards, this entire series is exceedingly well-written with some passages verging on the poetic. This book advances the story being told throughout the series setting up the incredible challenges our heroines will face in the final book to come. Note that this entire series is available in both subtext-explicit and subtext-lite versions. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
Happy reading!
