THURSDAY FAN FICTION REPORT - 10/30/97

Hi guys,

LOTS of fan fic related news tonight. First of all, there's a new XWP fan fic site available, Pink Rabbit Productions featuring both general and alt. fan fiction. Some of the PG-13 stories are reviewed below. Note that to access the more adult stories a password IS required which you can obtained by e-mailing the Xenites who maintain the site. There are some new Web rings now being formed SPECIFICALLY dedicated o XWP fan fiction. For those of you who are not familiar with Web rings - these are a collection of sites dedicated to similar interests that all link to one another allowing visitors to move from one site to another easily. If you maintain a Web site that contains XWP fan fiction I urge to take a look at the following pages and link up to the ring - the bigger it is the more fun it will be for us all and the more visitors everyone is likely to get! Something which should be particularly helpful and fun about these new rings is that they'll allow readers to share THEIR OWN REVIEWS of fan fiction stories! I've been reviewing stories for a LONG time guys so NOW lets hear from more of you out there! Recommend your favorite stories so we can ALL enjoy them. Now on to other news - just in time for Halloween >:) Katrina has written a sequel to her story BITE ME called THE FONDER HEART which is now posted at her site at this URL: http://whoosh.org/katrina/STO/bite2.html

Katrina is inviting bards and bard-wannabees out there to write other tales based on the premise she sets forth in her two stories. Those of you who are interested should make sure to check out the ground rules which are posted at the end of THE FONDER HEART.

GENERAL FICTION:

NOT SO GUILTY PLEASURES by The Rabbit in Pink Rabbit Productions
This is a very short vignette and a clear-cut example of black comedy which explores what would have happened if Xena and the Gabster had met while the warrior was still a warlord. What can I say - it cracked me up! ;-)

GODDESS OF WAR by Ecuyer
Interesting story which gives a different spin to the ending of the episode TEN LITTLE WARLORDS. In this tale Xena does not give Ares back his sword but instead becomes the Goddess of War. A destitute Gabrielle then finds herself trying to remake her life, now in the company of Argo, Joxer and a suddenly mild-mannered Ares. This is well-written and features some poignant moments.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:

TWO HEARTS by de Bonheur
The eleventh entry in the LONG IS THE WAY series, this tale is set in the time of the Winter Solstice and has Xena realizing at last that the happiness she has found with her bard is indeed real. Tender, romantic and nicely written. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This is basically a retelling of the episode REMEMBER NOTHING with an alt. slant to it. Like the episode it is poignant and thought-provoking. Nice.

WINK, WINK, NUDGE, NUDGE by Pink Rabbit Productions
Amusing little vignette in which the bard finds herself in the PERFECT situation to admit some of her feelings for a certain warrior. Very cute.

For those of you reading this post who are not familiar with the term alternative (alt.), it refers to ADULT stories that add a romantic element to the relationship between Xena and Gabby, depicting them as more than just friends.
