[Previous report was for 10/4/98]
Hi guys,
SPOILER WARNING! - Those of you who don't want to be spoiled about future episodes might want to skip over the review for CN Winter's THE END included in the alternative section below. The review and the story include a small spoiler for the episode ADVENTURES IN THE SIN TRADE - Part 2. Great story by CN though so make sure to go read it after you've seen the episode.
There's a new XWP fanfic mailing list now available - this one devoted to heterosexual Xena fanfic. Run by Tim Wellman, the list is called heteroxena@onelist.com and you can join by going to http://www.onelist.com/viewarchive.cgi?listname=heteroxena
Three new ones, two updates and some FANFIC ART tonight.
GENERAL FICTION:
THE EDGE OF THE WORLD by Wishes
One of the most prolific and brightest talents in XWP fanfic, Wishes never fails to deliver fiction which challenges the mind and the soul. Set sometime in the nineteenth century, this new uber story chronicles the experience of a group of women and their children after a storm separates them from their husbands, leaving them stranded on an island somewhere in the Pacific. As told by one of these women, the story follows the group as they finally make their way back to civilization to await the reunion with their husbands - but much has changed in three years and for some of those women there is no going back... Based on a very deliberate economy of words, Wishes' writing style here is one that has always served her well - turning deceptively simple stories into fiction with tremendous impact. This is one more gem in a portfolio that should be required reading for anyone who likes quality fanfic. DO NOT MISS!! [Note: story contains some very subtle subtext] - 3 pgs.

ALTERNATIVE FICTION:
THE END by CN Winters
As if going through about 5 kleenex boxes over the weekend due to a terrible cold wasn't enough, CN has just made me go through one more with this story. Alas, I'm such a sucker for punishment when it comes to beautifully written, heart-WRENCHING Xena fanfic <:) Inspired by a scene from ADVENTURES IN THE SIN TRADE - part 2, this little story chronicles the final moments in the lives of the Warrior Princess and her bard. BEYOND moving folks. Just exceptional. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENEDED - 3 pgs.

THE DANGEROUS TRUTH by Curiositee
Chaptes 18-19 are now available. Set in the present day, this FANTASTIC new uber-Xena story gets off to a rousing start as it follows a gutsy young reporter named Bridget Stone on a fateful excursion into the Chicago slums. In search of a lead, she'll find more than she ever bargained for when an assassin tries to end her investigation and a mysterious stranger interferes, one of the many homeless that frequent the slums, only in the blue depths of that stranger's eyes Bridget will sense a connection as old as time. Soon enough the reporter finds herself with two mysteries on her hands as she considers who may be trying to kill her while trying to solve the puzzle that is the woman who saved her...a woman whose tortured past holds secrets only Bridget may be able to uncover. In this latest part Bridget fights for her life - all the while wondering if she's been betrayed. Terrific characterizations make Bridget and her indigent savior immediately endearing. Combining suspense, mystery and a sense of pathos this wonderfully written tale is going to leave you anxiously awaiting that next chapter. A great uber drama in the making folks. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 12 pgs.

TYGER, TYGER by Joseph Connell
Part 2 is now available. Joseph's latest is a prelude to Redhawk's marvelous XWP/HIGHLADER crossover ONLY ONE which was in turn the canon story for the INFINITY SERIES. The story begins in the Amazon jungles of the 1940's where the inhabitants of a small village begin to worry that the medicine woman they've revered for longer than any of them can remember, might possibly be getting ready to leave them. For many of them the dark woman with piercing blue eyes is part god, able to heal from fatal injuries in a matter of moments. She has been, for a long time, the villagers' salvation, helping them to survive and cope in the changing world but indeed her time with them is at an end. The medicine woman knows this when visions come to her of a beloved face never forgotten if somehow made different by the passing of time. Instinctively she knows her time of peace is at an end for the world is crying out for a warrior - and Xena of Amphipolis must answer that call. In this latest part - an ancient warrior emerges from seclusion, wondering at the meaning of the dreams she's been having. Joseph's imbues the beginning of this story with a terrific mystical quality that immediately captures the reader. This should be a riveting one folks. DO NOT MISS! - 4 pgs.
