ALTERNATIVE FICTION

THE HANGING GARDENS by XWP Fanatic
The second episode in the SEVEN WONDERS SERIES after Fanatic's extraordinary AFTERMATH: THE THREE OF LIFE this sequel continues the story of Xena the Conqueror and her lovely consort, Gabrielle, Queen of the Amazons as they travel to exotic Babylon home of one of the wonders of the Ancient World, the majestic Hanging Gardens. There to celebrate the anniversary of King Nebuharin's reign, Conqueror and queen begin to suspect the intentions of the crafty Babylonian ruler the minute they spot a Roman flag among the ships in the harbor. Joining the other rulers also invited to the festivities they soon learn of Nebuharin's plans for the historic gathering - only there are other plans afoot as well...ones which may endanger the Conqueror, her queen and the still fragile happiness they have found together. Fanatic continues here the very solid characterizations she established in the first story as she develops the relationship between a very dangerous, very driven, very smart Conqueror who is nevertheless pitifully ignorant when it comes to affairs of the heart, and a stubborn Amazon queen with a gentle soul, a wisdom that is often beyond her years and a keen understanding of those affairs of the heart. Establishing in the first few chapters what promises to be one heck of murder mystery, this tale surrounds the Xena/Gab romance with a terrific sense of suspense and intrigue. A MUST READ in the weeks ahead that comes VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! - 25 pgs.

THE HERO WITHIN by My OSage
Offering a VERY romantic and physically intense interpretation of the Xena/Gab relationship, this story is set ten years after the two first meet at a time when their partnership has become a decidedly satisfying one firmly rooted in the love and respect for one another. Their happiness, however, is cruelly interrupted when news reach them that Lilla's daughter has been kidnapped by a group of rouge Amazons - a group led by a bitter woman with a grudge to settle and a very unhealthy interest in the Warrior Princess. Well-written, emotional story with some suspenseful moments and a terrific sense of intimacy in the Xena/Gab connection. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 15 pgs.

INSIDE, OUTSIDE by CN Winters
Set right after the events in the episode FAMILY AFFAIRS, this passionate new entry has Xena and the bard still in Poteidaia as they prepare to embark on a new life together. The choice is a difficult one to accept for Gabrielle's family but for the bard - there is no other choice. CN uses a shifting point-of-view technique here that is nicely effective as she reveals the thoughts of the different players. The characterizations are on the money, revealing a wonderful tenderness and devotion between warrior and bard. DO NOT MISS! - 9 pgs.

EVERY MOMENT by T. Novan
The 22nd entry in the RAISING MELOSA SERIES finds Xena nursing her partner through what promises to be a long and difficult recovery as the bard begins to respond to friends and family. Hopeful and as usual with this series, very nicely written. - 6 pgs.

TAKE A CHANCE by Masque
The conclusion is now available. This story opens with Xena and Gabrielle in Amazonia, both in very reflective moods as they think about their feelings for one another - it's a shared moment of introspection that soon leads to other things when a certain feisty bard decides to take matters into her own hands. Sweet and mischievous. - 15 pgs.

THE LONGING by Protek
The conclusion is now available. This newest entry in the INFINITY SERIES begun by Redhawk, this new story finds the immortal Xena of Amphipolis remembering the time she first escaped from her self-imposed exile in the jungles of the Amazon to embrace the world again. It was a juncture that would take her to Europe and then on a long sea voyage headed to the United States aboard a majestic liner on her maiden voyage in April 1912. This final part has Xena remembering those fateful April days and recovering a part of her ancient past. Protek successfully presents here the mixture of past and present that are common to stories in the INFINITY SERIES and that were a hallmark of the HIGHLANDER TV series on which the series is partly based. Particularly timely given the current interest on the specific liner featured here, this tale is entertaining and well-written. DO NOT MISS! - 7 pgs.
