BUILDING A MYSTERY by Danae
This story, as the title implies, is a tantalizing puzzle in which the parts are revealed slowly and then you still have to wait 'til the end to see how all those parts fit together. Danae tells the tale here of Xena's first true love - of the awakening within the warrior's heart of a new awareness, new feelings...new passions. Beautifully written, this is a highly original, poignant, sensual piece. - 44 pgs., 10/27/97

BURIED MEMORIES by Themiscrya
This story is so gut-wrenching that it is difficult to read but it is also WELL-WORTH the emotional effort. After Xena and Gabrielle rescue one of Xena's old lovers, a woman the warrior thought dead, Xena suddenly finds herself in an emotional turmoil, torn between memories from the past and the feelings for Gabrielle she's been struggling so desperately against. Unable to control her passion, the warrior will give in to it in a moment of weakness that will force her to make a choice - a choice between two women she loves - a choice that will bring happiness to one...and torment to the other. - 93 pgs., 5/29/97

**BURNING CANDLE (THE) by AH-Ladis
Set in a foreign land and featuring a very original premise, this action-packed story finds Xena and Gabrielle in Syria fighting the invading Roman legions when an injury robs Gabrielle of the Warrior Princess she knows and loves, leaving in her place a confused, scared stranger the bard must struggle to protect against the enemies closing in. AH-Ladis does a wonderful job with the treatment of the relationship in this, imbuing it with a sense of commitment and love and trust capable of overcoming the greatest of challenges. The characterizations are captivating - Gabrielle at her best and Xena at her most vulnerable, stripped of her warrior identity but left with an unwavering belief and love in the beautiful lady who seems so determined to protect her. Excellent writing in a thoroughly engrossing read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - 77 pgs., 8/2/98

**BUT FOR HOPE by de Bonheur
The ninth installment in de Bonheur's LONG IS THE WAY SERIES like all the rest of the installments can be read as a story on it's own and it is a hauntingly BEAUTIFUL story - one of the best in the series to date. Shaken by the death of her mentor, a confused and hurt Xena chooses to put some distance between herself and Gabrielle, hoping to make some sense of the raging emotions within her. All the while, the bard waits and hopes for the return of her warrior, seeing the pale blue eyes in the faces of strangers and desperately trying to keep her heart from breaking. Sensual, poignant and deeply romantic, this is NOT TO BE MISSED! - 8 pgs., 10/20/97

BUT, IS IT ART? by Crewella
In this DELIGHTFUL new story Gabrielle gets an inebriated Xena to open up a bit as the two go from discussing art to discussing the art of love ;-) Fascinated by the warrior's experience in this arena, the young bard takes the opportunity to ask question after question never realizing that as she is doing so, she is also discovering some of her own answers. Very well-written, clever story with a sweet sense of humor. - 7 pgs., 7/15/97
